Quaro: Media Facade Lighting

Media façade lighting for a commercial building in Jingumae, Tokyo. Behind the vertical louvers, the lighting is generated from the date, time, weather and a random seed, so the façade never repeats itself. The variations are kept subtle and tranquil so that they dissolve into the architecture rather than compete with it.

The lighting is driven by a control application running on site. It reads the ambient light, the weather and the wind, and blends a handful of generative patterns — sun, fluid, bubble — into the louvers.
