• I decline all requests for inclusion in annuals or yearbooks that charge a listing fee.

• The talk must be publishable afterwards in a form that allows some kind of reuse.
• If that is difficult, at least the lecture materials or the title of the talk must be publishable.

Even when the budget is tight, I'd like to be as flexible as I can. In that case, along with the overall budget and a breakdown of each item, please tell me as concretely as possible why the budget is limited and what the circumstances are.

Below are some ways of working I've used so far to keep the quality up within a limited budget.

• No formal orientation documents are needed. It helps if you can share things early, in detail and in whatever rough form they come in, including financial information and the state of R&D that you wouldn't normally share with a contractor.
• On my side, I skip proposal documents and presentations. We stay in close contact in a chat that everyone can join, including the client and any related companies, so that as much effort as possible goes into the production itself.
• Requirements are fixed before production begins, and feedback on the tone of the work, such as creative direction, is not accepted.
• If someone on your side can take part in the production, in design or implementation, it would help to make the work together.
